The history of the USA contains immigration of many races. In our days it’s hard to understand the way of thinking of this period, but we are still confronted with it, in different ways. The presence of the African population in America is very prominent nowadays: the country has come a long way, even to the extend that at the moment I write this, an African-American is running for president! Yes, African-American history in America has changed (tremendously|for the good}, which sort of restores ones faith in mankind.

However, there are still many remains of the period of slavery and discrimination. Nowadays many of those have become collectable parts of Black American history. Under the name Black Americana those objects are often collected. Often by African-Americans who need to preserve part of their personal history in the form of African-American memorabilia, but also by other ethnicities who perceive them als signs of a time that was strongly different from our own, and that must not be forgotten.

Among these Black Americana or memorabilia are household objects like kitchen utensils, but also originals or replicas of objects from the slave period itself. Many books about this period can be found, and indeed should be studied. Black Americana is a field of interest that reminds us all of how life should not be, and by keeping this reminder alive we contribute to better consciousness of African-American history.

The Mexican resort city of Cancun was sleepy countryside before a building boom in the 1970s. It all started when the government decided it needed to draw more international vacation activity to a nice beachfront town on the Caribbean. They would start the development project and offer travel deals to entice visitors; it worked.

Now, less than 50 years later there are well over 100 hotels along a several-mile stretch called the Hotel Zone. The town is now a major city with an urban downtown, major shopping areas and world-class dining. There are numerous adventures to be had in and around Cancun. Obviously the usual parasailing, sport fishing and snorkeling are available. I will point out that the whole region can become very hot and humid in the summer months. Next time I go, I’ll look hard at planning the trip for the months between late Fall and Spring. In the wintertime the temperatures are still beautiful.
