How to Become a Nurse in India

It is possible to take either a diploma or degree course to qualify as a nurse. Education is provided by Nursing Colleges in local hospitals as well as a community setting. While full time diploma courses last 3 1/2 years, degree courses last 4 years.

The minimum and maximum age for admission will be 17 and 35 years respectively. The minimum education required is a pass mark in +2 with any subjects with an aggregate of 40% marks. Those who have cleared 10+2 vocational ANM course (revised after 2001) from the school recognized by Indian Nursing Council are also eligible. Admission of students shall be once a year. Students need to be medically fit.

Basic B.Sc. (Nursing India)

An equivalent with 12 years schooling from a recognized board or university With Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) and English with minimum of 45% aggregate marks (PCBE).

Entrance/Selection test for Nursing in India:

Selection of the candidates will be based on the merit of the entrance examination held by University or competent authority.

Nursing Degree Vs Nursing Diploma:

The nurse India site recommends that it is better to obtain a Nursing Degree than a Nursing Diploma because most of the overseas hospitals are giving more preference for a degree. Also the initial salary for degree is better than diploma. Above all in order to continue further education, a degree is more advantageous than a diploma.
