If you have a small juice carton lying around your home, then you have the main ingredient needed to make your own homemade hummingbird feeder. The process is rather simple to complete and most of the time involved will be spent on decorating your creation how you see fit to do so. You will need a small juice carton, some ribbons and pipe cleaners as well as maybe even some silk flowers. The most important thing when it comes to decorating your feeder though is that hummingbirds are attracted to red and since thy find tier food through sight and not smell, decorating will also play an important part. But not as decorative as some glass hummingbird feeders or window hummingbird feeders.
Start by taking the juice carton and cleaning it out. Let the carton dry back out and then seal the thing shut. Add a small hole at the top which needs to be about the size of a match stick so the beak of the hummingbird will fit inside it. At this hole you may also glue a silk flower in place as long as the flower has a hole in it and that you do not seal the hole shut in the process. Spend the remaining time finishing off the decorations to make it your creation and when you think you are finished; carefully add nectar to the inside and hang the feeder out in your yard.
Try to make the spot a shaded one so as to slow down the evaporation of the nectar and within a relatively short period of time you will be able to start seeing hummingbirds stop by to feed at your homemade hummingbird feeders. Nothing is more satisfying to a bird enthusiast then to see their birds enjoying something that they had created with their own hands. You will be able to get many hour of enjoyment out of this feeder as well.
