I was working on my most current niche market site this week, and realised that I missed going camping. I never meant to not go camping anymore. It wasn’t planned or anything. It just happened! Somehow - in between learning a new business (which I do love, but still it is hard to keep learning new stuff every day), keeping up with old friends (yes it is such hard work to meet and drink wine each week), making sure I take care of myself by doing my yoga and cooking good meals for me and many of my friends, and of course keeping up with the latest episode of Heroes, who has time for camping? Well, I guess I don’t.
So here I am, looking up all this cool backbacking gear for my latest site, CheapCampingEquipment.org and I have now managed to not go camping for at least the last two years. It isn’t as if there aren’t tons of great places nearby that I have often thought, “Gee, that would be a great place to go camping”. I think it all the time. The DeAnza Borrega Desert is a beautiful place and you can just pull off the highway and camp anywhere (one of the few places in America that you can do this). I am just a short boat trip from Catalina Island, where I could bicycle across the island in no time and find some great places to camp near Two Rivers. I look at websites of this place all the time and plan to go each summer. But somehow - it never happens. I know of a great little tent I saw when working on one of my pages about cheap tents and I think I could easily bike with the backpacking gear I listed without too much trouble. I can’t quite figure out what is stopping me, since I know I love camping. Perhaps as we get older we just need a bigger incentive to get out there.
Or maybe just the thought of pitching rocks from my campsite at two in the morning no longer is the thrill it used to be. Cabins are looking better as the 60th birthday looms and perhaps that is the best reason of all to decide not to go camping.
