The Harry Potter books have a huge group of fans in and outside the UK

I am always impressed by the high global popularity of the Harry Potter stories. The Harry Potter books were written by the English writer J.K. Rowling. She was born on 31 July 1965. Her complete name is Joanne Rowling. But she writes under the pseudonym J.K. Rowling because primarily her publishing company thought it was a good move not to reveal the fact that she is female. The publishing company feared it might have a negative effect on the sales numbers if everybody instantly sees that the writer is female. So, instead of showing her first name she used two letters. As she has no middle name she chose Kathleen as basis for the K. in her pen name. Kathleen is the name of her grandmother.

The very first Harry Potter book – Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone – was publicized in 1997 in in Great Britain. Quite interesting is the matter that only thousand pieces of the first story were printed at that time. The original title of the novel was not Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, but Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. But when the story was published to the United States marketplace in September 1998, it was published as Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone.

After that Joanne Rowling invented several more Harry Potter books. Now the Harry Potter series is made of a total of 7 novels. These are:

  • Novel 1: Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone
  • Novel 2: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
  • Novel 3: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
  • Novel 4: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
  • Novel 5: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
  • Novel 6: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
  • Novel 7: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

The Harry Potter stories have been translated into over 55 languages and have been published in a lot of countries. Besides the huge success in the USA and Britain, Harry Potter is also noticeably renowned in the EU. The Harry Potter novels have been published in Germany under the following headers:

I must admit that I did not have the time to read all the stories. But there are fans who know them all, which is very remarkable and contributes to the huge success.
